Join us from 11th to 13th October 2018 as we return with the second One World By The Sea festival at venues across Bournemouth and Poole! This year we are planning a global discovery event in the Lansdowne area, an evening of International music in Westbourne, an afternoon of cultural pop up events on Poole High Street and a family day in The Triangle, central Bournemouth, featuring food, music, dance and sport from around the world, plus a procession of sambistas!
One World By The Sea is organised by The International Education Forum (IEF) with the aim of celebrating the diversity of our local community, and showcasing Bournemouth and Poole as an area which welcomes international students and other visitors.
In 2018 we are delighted to be working with Dorset Race Equality Council, Bournemouth Town Centre BID, Wave 105 FM, Ceuta Healthcare, Yellow Buses, and Dorset MIND. We are also a fringe event of Arts By The Sea festival, and part of the BOMO season of festivals celebrating creativity, culture and ideas.
ONE WORLD BY THE SEA WORKING GROUP MEMBERS
ANDY
THOMPSON
Andy Thompson has been working with the IEF for several years as the representative for Bournemouth University, and was keen to support the festival this year.
For Andy, the core characteristic of the festival is its celebratory nature – celebrating the enormous diversity of nationalities, cultures, languages, cuisines, religions and perspectives.
DAVID
JONES
David Jones is helping the festival with developing, marketing and organising events on the programme, such as the“One World – Many Voices” music evening.
David would like the festival to continue to grow and bring in more artists, performers, exhibitors and speakers, as well as become completely sustainable with the development of new partnerships and sponsorship.
GEORGINA
MORRIN
Georgina Morrin is helping the festival with social media, research and building the new website. She has also written and designed the One World By The Sea School Competition 2018 brief, which is new for the festival this year.
If prompted to choose a festival to see, Georgina would like to go to the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock City, USA.
GRAHAM RICHARDSON
Graham Richardson’s role includes general support of the festival and liaison with the local authorities of Bournemouth and Poole, together with leading on the Poole elements of the festival.
When asked what the festival means to him, Graham says: “A great way to showcase the huge beneficial impact that cultural diversity has on our community.”
GUIDO
SCHILLIG
Guido Schillig got involved with the festival after an International Education Forum (IEF), where the idea of an event which would celebrate the riches that international students bring to Bournemouth and Poole was proposed.
Guido helps out with the festival wherever he can and would like to see the festival grow so that it could embrace more international cultural experiences.
RACHEL WOODWARD CARRICK
Rachel Woodward Carrick is the chair of the One World By The Sea working group and oversees all of the different aspects of the festival’s organisation.
Rachel has spent many years living outside the UK and working in international education. She loves finding out about different cultures and wanted to launch a festival to celebrate the area’s cultural diversity upon her move to Bournemouth.
WILL
HUME
Will Hume has held various roles within the festival organisation, linking the festival with contacts in and around Bournemouth – one of those contacts being the festival's charity for 2018, Dorset Mind.
Being a Rotarian, Will would like the festival to be supported by the Rotary clubs of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, because the guiding principles of Rotary fit well with the celebration of multiculturalism.

COOPER
Lauren Cooper was keen to get involved in the early stages of the 2018 One World By The Sea festival after the first festival and attending the IEF meetings. At the moment Lauren holds the role of a working group’s secretary and minute-taker.
Lauren sees internationality, vibrancy, community and unity as the defining characteristics of the festival.
JOSHUA
BUTLER
Joshua Butler produces photography and video for social media and marketing for One World By The Sea Festival.
Joshua feels that the festival is a fantastic way to showcase the diverse cultures that inhabit Bournemouth – a friendly, welcoming, beautiful seaside town with a fantastic coastline and a cosmopolitan spirit.
ANASTASIA TETIUCKICH
Anastasia has joined the festival this year and been busy helping the team with all things graphic. She has designed the new One World By The Sea website and is designing festival’s promotional materials for this year.
Having been an international student at Arts University Bournemouth herself, Anastasia would love the festival to celebrate creativity and new ideas that international students bring to Bournemouth.
WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION FORUM?
The IEF is a professional association made up of the key accredited international educational institutions in the area, including most of the two towns’ accredited language schools, an independent boarding school, Bournemouth and Poole College, Bournemouth University International College, Arts University Bournemouth, Bournemouth University, and White House Guardians. In addition, Bournemouth and Poole Tourism are also represented at the Forum.
IEF members share the goal of promoting Bournemouth and Poole as a first-class destination for international education, and we are gaining a world-wide reputation despite the towns’ comparable size when competing with better- known cities such as Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool. The area is now acknowledged to be the second largest UK centre for international education outside London, with a value to the local economy estimated to be close to £300m per year.
